Engaging Dementia has an independent board of directors, who do not get any remuneration for their work.

Cora O’Farrell

(Chairperson)

Cora is a Chartered Accountant (ACA) with a variety of experiences in practice and industry across Accounting & Finance, Consultancy, Strategy, Organisational Effectiveness and Change. Cora joined Engaging Dementia as a board member in 2016, and has been leading the board as chair since 2019. She is also part of our Finance Sub-committee. Cora has experience with other charities such as the Irish Red Cross and in other governance roles such as UCC.

Cliodhne Hamilton

(Secretary)

Cliodhne is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants and a member of the Institute of Directors. Cliodhne has extensive experience in practice and industry in Accounting &  Finance, Governance &  Strategy. Cliodhne joined the Board of Engaging Dementia in 2012 and also sits on our Finance Sub-Committee. She is involved in a number of community & sporting organisations and sits on their committees on a volunteer basis, advising on finance and governance.

Dr. Mary Prendergast

Dr. Mary Prendergast, recently retired Head of Department and Lecturer in the Technological University Dublin has lectured and researched in the areas of Human Resource Management, International HRM, Managing Cultural Diversity, Health and Safety Management and Management Studies.  Mary has a Masters in Health and Safety from Dublin City University and a Doctorate in Social Science from the University of Leicester.  Mary has designed, developed and validated a range of programmes in the School of Management in TU Dublin for delivery in the University and for Corporate Clients.  She is External Examiner for Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. She served as  Chair of the HR Sub-committee on the Board of the North Leinster Citizens Information Services group from 2018-2019.

Cathleen

Cathleen Hartnett

Cathleen is a consultant quality assurance advisor working in the further education and training sector. She has worked in senior administrative, business development and advisory roles in the public, private and community voluntary sectors for over thirty years. Cathleen works with clients in the design and implementation of fit-for-purpose quality assurance and governance systems and processes.  Cathleen is a founder member, director and company secretary of HopeSpace CLG, Galway’s Children Grief Centre and works as a volunteer with Cope Galway and a number of other community volunteer-led groups. Cathleen joined the Board of Engaging Dementia in 2021 and is also a member of the Programme Development Sub-Committee (a sub-committee of the Board)

Catriona Campbell

Catrióna Campbell is a marketing professional and entrepreneur with 20 years experience working in the Creative Advertising & Design industry, and has been leading her own advertising agency since 2012, working with a number of national and global clients across a variety of industries including the public, not for profit and private sector. She is a member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland. Catrióna joined the Engaging Dementia board in 2024.

Monica Caffrey-Blount

Monica is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with 12 years broad clinical experience. She joined the board of Engaging Dementia in 2020 and sits on our Governance Sub-Committee. Monica is a member of The Corporate Governance Institute in Ireland. She qualified as a general nurse (RGN) and children’s nurse (RCN) through Dublin City University and has a Master’s in Business Administration from The University of Limerick. Monica also volunteers with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and serves on the Quality & Safety sub-committee of The Great Care Co-Op.

Aisling Scully

Aisling Scully is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (FCA) with thirty years of experience in the regulated financial services sector. Aisling has a strong corporate governance focus with significant experience at board and senior executive level across a variety of roles covering Accounting & Finance, Risk Management, Strategy & Governance and Operations. Aisling joined the Board of Engaging Dementia in 2023 and also sits on our Finance Sub-Committee.

Mick O'Toole

Mick O’Toole earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Following that, he ventured into the realm of Information Security (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+) and is  currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity. Mick has actively participated in various clubs and school boards, and he also serves as a coach for a local sports team. With a wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors, Mick presently holds the  position of Head of Cybersecurity at an online travel company.

Governance Code

Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public

Engaging Dementia abides by the Charities Regulator’s Guidelines for Charitable Organisations on Fundraising from the Public. Engaging Dementia ensures that all fundraising is in line with these guidelines, and has adopted internal policies and procedures to ensure this.
