In this newly developed course, tutor Joyce Fitzpatrick will cover the latest findings relating to supporting those with late stage dementia. You will have an opportunity to apply your new skills to your own workplace/care environment and to then share your experiences, questions, and successes with Joyce and your fellow attendees in the second session which will help hone your skills and grow your confidence.

Topics covered will include:

  • Dementia Care Mapping – learn to identify personal needs at this stage of life
  • Alzheimer Observational Tool
  • Rhythm, Melody and Harmony – using the senses to enrich interactions
  • Terminal Lucidity – connecting to the end
  • Coma Touch – providing comfort and being present
  • Privacy, Confidentiality, and Consent

About the tutor:

Social and Therapeutic Horticulturist Joyce Fitzpatrick has an impressive history of supporting nursing home residents for nearly 20 years, and has considerable experience in adapting & delivering projects to spread joy with a mixed ability group. She is passionate about nature and the environment and brings a wealth of knowledge to each course with importance placed on assisting each learner within their specific situation.
