Course Overview
On this course tutor Joyce Fitzpatrick will cover the latest findings relating to supporting those with late-stage dementia. You will learn some simple techniques which can have a profound effect on the lives of those in your care and bring a new perspective to your work and life.
This course is delivered in two parts using the ‘Apply & Review’ model to allow participants to discover which methods work with your residents and to problem solve when difficulties arise. You will have an opportunity to apply your new skills to your own workplace/care environment and to then share your experiences, questions, and findings with Joyce and your fellow attendees in the second session which will help hone your skills and grow your confidence.
About the Topic
People should be able to continue feeling relevant and respected even in the later stages of dementia, enjoying Life at its fullest. Nowadays we have access to so many ways of enriching the lives of older people and those living with dementia, but putting things into practice takes time, an understanding of the essence of the person before us and plenty of patience.

Joyce Fitzpatrick
This course is lead and facilitated by Social and Therapeutic Horticulturist Joyce Fitzpatrick who has an impressive history of supporting nursing home residents for nearly 25 years and has considerable experience in adapting & delivering projects to spread joy with a mixed ability group. Joyce is passionate about nature and the environment and brings a wealth of knowledge to each course with importance placed on assisting each learner within their specific situation.
Joyce is qualified in Botany, Biochemistry, Social and Therapeutic Horticulture from Coventry University and was trained in Dementia Care Mapping (Bradford).
