Dr. Kelly and Cognitive (Memory) Rehabilitation

Dr. Michelle Kelly is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the National College of Ireland with over 30 publications on topics within the fields of cognitive health, cognitive rehabilitation, dementia, RFT, ADHD and Autism. She has a doctorate in Applied Behaviour Analysis and Therapy from Maynooth University and completed her post-doc as an Early Intervention Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (2014). 

Her cognitive rehabilitation manual explores her research and development of evidence-based Cognitive Rehabilitation (CR) and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) for people with mild-moderate dementia.

CR is designed to:

  • Enhance or maintain everyday functioning.
  • Reduce excess disability and barriers for the person living with dementia by identifying and addressing personal rehabilitation goals
  • Reduce strain for family caregivers.

Who is the Cognitive Rehabilitation Course for?

The Cognitive Rehabilitation Course will be of benefit to anyone offering services to people with mild cognitive impairment or dementia in the early stages. Healthcare professionals will learn evidence-based early intervention strategies that can support people with dementia to achieve important goals and maximize their cognitive abilities. Rehabilitative interventions also support individuals to continue to live independently for as long as possible.

  • Understanding the background and research evidence supporting cognitive rehabilitation for people with dementia.
  • To gain knowledge of the guiding principles of CR and how to incorporate these
  • Practice in recall strategies and development of intervention plans
  • Understanding case examples and evaluating sample interventions
